A Point Well Made

I received this twice in emails from my husbands mother and aunt and thought I'd share.

I think this just may be the best pro-life message I've seen.
A Point well made!!!

A worried woman went to her gynecologist and said:
'Doctor, I have a serious problem and desperately need your help! My baby is not even 1 year old and I'm pregnant again. I don't want kids so close together.

So the doctor said: 'Ok and what do you want me to do?'
She said: 'I want you to end my pregnancy, and I'm counting on your help with this.'
The doctor thought for a little, and after some silence he said to the lady: 'I think I have a better solution for your problem. It's less dangerous for you too.'
She smiled, thinking that the doctor was going to accept her request.
Then he continued: 'You see, in order for you not to have to take care 2 babies at the same time, let's kill the one in your arms. This way, you could rest some before the other one is born. If we're going to kill one of them, it doesn't matter which one it is. There would be no risk for your body if you chose the one in your arms.

The lady was horrified and said: 'No doctor! How terrible! It's a crime to kill a child!
'I agree', the doctor replied.  'But you seemed to be OK with it, so I thought maybe that was the best solution.'
The doctor smiled, realizing that he had made his point.
He convinced the mom that there is no difference in killing a child that's already been born and one that's still in the womb.
The crime  is the same!

If you agree, please forward.  Together we can help save precious lives!
Learn from Yesterday,  live for Today, hope for Tomorrow..   "Love says I sacrifice myself for the good of the other person. Abortion says I sacrifice the other person for the good of myself..."

Lo, children are an heritage of the LORD: and the fruit of the womb is his REWARD. Psalm 127.3

That is an unusual way of thinking about the issue. it really shouldn't be considered a child until the baby would be able to survive on it's own outside of the womb.
Plus it is not a crime. It is family planning at best and helping those realize they cannot afford to give this child the life they deserve. If abortion was not legal 3 things would happen. One- you would see a spike in unsafe abortions administered by those who are not trained doctors, let alone the risk of infection of the mother would be greatly increased. Two- foster care/ adoption services would become more crowded than they already are. Thus the child will not be receiving an adequate home-life. Three- more people would be part of the welfare state and with all the slashing being done to programs to help those in need, you would see the standard of living decrease.
I understand you are very pro life. Yet women deserve the right to choose. it is not a crime, nor should it ever be seen that way. Scientists have even said it is cells coming together.

If we can go ahead and eat chicken eggs before they actually become chickens, then we can certainly have the right to abort the fetus before it actually becomes a child.

You obviously know NOTHING about chickens. The eggs we eat are not fertilized and have no way to ever become a chicken. And, comparing a stupid bird to a human being with an eternal soul, is completely ignorant and idiotic.

LOL since when can a baby survive on its own outside the womb? Babies need 24/7 care and feeding...at least all the babies Ive ever had, seen and known. Maybe there is some new species of super babies who can care for themselves?
Sorry to say but they are just as helpless outside the womb.
And since when is a chicken equal to a human?
Oh and one more thing. Since I am confident in my beliefs and opinions I am not ashamed to show my identity. Anyone can post an anonymous comment...why hide? Are you afraid we will know who you are?

I am not the anon from before, but I just HAD to toss in my two cents.

A baby is very different from a fetus. There is one vital difference between a living, breathing infant and a fetus and that difference is sentience. A fetus cannot think, it cannot interpret anything which it might experience, and any electric impulses which pass through the developing tissue of what may become a brain cannot be compared to the active thought of a baby. Personhood is derived from our experiences and our interpretations of said experiences. This is why animals are not considered people despite the fact that they are living, thinking creatures. And although a fetus may eventually develop sentience and become a person, destroying it while it has all the intelligence of a bacterium is certainly morally permissible when the sentient person whose body is being used as an incubator wishes it gone.

And Kimmie, I will listen to your "eternal soul" argument when you can scientifically provide evidence that souls even exist. You should probably brush up on how to properly place commas as well lest people mistake you for being ignorant and idiotic.

Yours,
a man who finds it hard to believe that anyone would be afraid of soccer moms with penchants for fairy tales but will humor you nonetheless

--- anonymous- you make a very interesting argument. But let me do say you need to brush up on your learning skills and realize that the chicken eggs we buy from grocery stores will never become actual chickens
-- J - I think the point anonymous was trying to make was that the fetus is only a fetus. The abortions preformed, by those who wish to have them done , take place in the cell stage. It is stopping the process of a potential life but it isn’t an actual life. A baby cannot live at 6 weeks outside of the womb but it can past the third trimester. That is why the gruesome partial birth abortions and other types are no longer performed. That to me is sick and disgusting but when it is merely in the cell stage, it is not considered a human life. Obviously Christians will disagree because they believe life begins at conception. But scientifically, abortion can be justified.

Gene,

I am completely comma impaired. I have spastic comma syndrome. My right ring finger has some attraction to the comma button. I am always puzzled at the random comma placements when I go back and re read things.

Do you have scientific proof that a human doesn't have an eternal soul?

Anonymous said...

Yet, you have no proof that eternal soul exists. You are basing your beliefs off of the Bible. The Bible says that the punishment for sin is death. I am sure you sin everyday, but you ask God to forgive you and for your previous sins. Who are you to say that your sin is no less than someone going through with an abortion? Obviously, your Christian views are blinders for what the constitution stands for—the right to privacy. A woman deserves that right because it is her body and her decision. Period.
I suppose you will declare that the constitution states we all have a right to life. Yet, that is granted for AMERICAN citizens. Which one has to be born in the US and a fetus is not should not be a considered a human life until it is out of the mothers womb and alive.

Gene Cohen said...

I do not have scientific proof that humans do not have eternal souls. This is irrelevant, however, because the burden of proof lies with you. If you claim that something exists then it is your responsibility to prove that it does exist, not my responsibility to prove that it doesn't.

Furthermore, you are forgetting a basic rule of critical thinking: extraordinary claims require extraordinary evidence. I could claim that there is an invisible and intangible unicorn living in my garage. I would not be able to offer evidence that it actually exists but no one would be able to conclusively prove that it does not exist either. By your reasoning, the logical thing to do in this scenario would be to assume that there really is a unicorn in my garage because its existence cannot be refuted.

Caution-Graphic-go to generationcedar-the April 26,2011 post. If abortion was abolished the support groups for women who have had abortions would have less people meeting. If abortion was abolished I would have 2 more siblings. If abortion was abolished the people who aren't talking to each other in my family would be talking. If abortion was abolished... I could go on and on. I pray abortion will be abolished. What were the arguments for legal slavery in the 1800s in our country? I'm not going to list them. I have a mixed granddaughter next to me-I am so glad slavery was abolished. You are welcome to edit my post-whoever you are-because it might not be grammatically correct. We are busy people and I am in a hurry usually when I comment. Did I forget a semicolon somewhere? Life begins at conception not implantation or birth. I knew this before sonograms. Some people have told me that they wouldn't have had those pre-sonograms abortions in the seventies because they were lied to.

"Anonymous" Your views will change one day when you have a baby of your own...trust me on this.
I am just wondering why we all have to accept your views yet when a Christian voices their opinion it is ok to insult, berate and put them down?
Are you aware that we dont need to ask God for forgiveness but that we have already been forgiven by the blood of Jesus? Jesus died so that we will be forgiven for our sins and it is an insult to ask God for what has already been given. All we need to do is thank and praise God for His gift to us. Please, I respectfully ask you to be careful when stating what Christians do.

Anon,

The Constitution doesn't grant rights to anyone, born or unborn.

It was established by the founders of the United States of America to protect the rights already endowed to us by our Creator. They knew human nature and that it would be a matter of time before the evils of men and corrupt government would try to take those rights away. That or lie to you to make you freely give up your rights without realizing it.

Only God can give rights. Each human being has been given the same rights by God at the moment of their conception.

You are not any better than a baby who is on life support until it can survive on it's own. That is what an unborn baby is. A human on life support

Gene,
I have to disagree with you. I don't feel I am required to have to provide scientific proof for my beliefs. I believe in God because I have faith that he exists. This is probably equal to your faith that he doesn't. Neither of us can provide the proof either way. No one who believes in God does so without faith. "So then faith cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God" Romans 10:17 says.

The difference in the faith that each of us possesses is that, mine has guaranteed me eternal life in heaven, and yours will lead you to eternal damnation in the lake of fire. It hurts my heart to know that belief on Christ is so simple, yet so many reject it. I have felt a burden on my heart for you.

You may believe that God simply doesn't exist, but that doesn't make your belief true.

It takes hearing God's word to have faith in him. I know you're probably reluctant, but just read it and let God speak to your soul. It's not hard ot understand. All men have sinned, the wage for your sin is death, Jesus already paid the price. Believe on him alone by faith and he will save you, forever. Nothing you can do after you are saved will ever take that away from you. Pray and ask him to save you.. He died for it. Let him save you. God bless, and I'll be praying for you.

For all have sinned, and come short of the glory of God; Romans 3:23

But the fearful, and unbelieving, and the abominable, and murderers, and whoremongers, and sorcerers, and idolaters, and all liars, shall have their part in the lake which burneth with fire and brimstone: which is the second death. Revelation 21:8

As it is written, There is none righteous, no, not one:There is none that understandeth, there is none that seeketh after God. They are all gone out of the way, they are together become unprofitable; there is none that doeth good, no, not one. Romans 3:10-12

For the wages of sin is death; but the gift of God is eternal life through Jesus Christ our Lord. Romans 6:23

But God commendeth his love toward us, in that, while we were yet sinners, Christ died for us. Romans 5:8

That if thou shalt confess with thy mouth the Lord Jesus, and shalt believe in thine heart that God hath raised him from the dead, thou shalt be saved. For with the heart man believeth unto righteousness; and with the mouth confession is made unto salvation. Romans 10:9-10

For whosoever shall call upon the name of the Lord shall be saved. Romans 10:13

And brought them out, and said, Sirs, what must I do to be saved? And they said, Believe on the Lord Jesus Christ, and thou shalt be saved, and thy house. Acts 16:30-31

Gene, you will definitely be in my thoughts and prayers.

Fundamentalists are interesting to say the least. It's hard to understand how you can still publish posts slamming abortion outright when to all intents and purposes you yourself had one. You didn't leave it up to God to sort out.

Kimmie said...

Lindsay,

You shouldn't say things that you have no information about. You really don't know what you are talking about.

We indeed left God to sort it out. Our baby stopped developing. It had no heartbeat even though the HCG #'s were large enough to indicate it should have had a detectable beating heart. It was clearly not alive. We chose to use the medicine instead of an operation on my tubes, the operation could have caused a lot of damage. My beta numbers dropped very quickly after that. Our Dr. (an expert on ectopic pregnancies) explained that had the baby been alive the numbers would have increased for several days before they dropped and it would have taken a long time to get back to normal. In my case my numbers were down less than 2 weeks later.

Had there been a heartbeat we would have just let things progress and stay under the close watch of the Dr's.

Nice try though.
