Julia and August

We are now the proud owners of a piano. Emily has shown interest in wanting to play for a little while now. The older girls play violin and we were preparing for the youngest two to start those this year. Emily said she really would rather play piano. We had one problem, no piano.

I searched for a couple of months on Craigslist and Freecycle. There are many free pianos out there but finding one in acceptable condition is not as simple. Each time I sent a message to someone they informed me the instrument was already taken. We all prayed about it and just trusted that we would get one when the time was right.

We have learned that you can pretty much get any large item for free if you’re patient enough. People would rather give away something than try and move it or sell it. We’ve received many nice blessings this way. A king-sized-bed, hot tub, double BOB jogging stroller, wheelbarrow etc….. And so we waited.

Two weeks ago I finally received an answer to a free piano Craigslist Ad. There was no picture, which made me nervous. Adam stopped by the man’s house after work to check it out; he called me and said it looked perfect. It was older but looked nice inside. It is smaller, I don’t know much about pianos, but I believe it’s called a spinet piano.

This past weekend we were able to pick it up. It fit perfectly in our minivan after the seats were all removed. We are professional piano movers now, you know. *wink* I was a bit impressed with it when I saw it. It was much nicer than I had expected. I was told the brand was a good one too. I really know nothing about pianos, but this one is a Story & Clark.

The kids are all very excited. August and Kiley got right down to learning how to play themselves. They already know how to read music and have said the piano has been easy to learn. They have been nice enough to show their little sisters what they’ve learned so far. It still needs to be tuned, but sounds pretty good considering. We are very thankful for God’s blessing and Emily can’t wait to start lessons in a couple of months. I will now have three violinists and a pianist. I really enjoy listening to my children play music; I have always had this dream of my children playing Canon in D  for me on their instruments. I can't wait for that day. 

Proverbs 6

Recent Happenings

Where have you been?

I feel like I haven't blogged in forever. I didn't even realize a month has gone by. I keep getting ideas for a great blog post and then I don't have much time to write it down. We've had so much going on, it's been a whirlwind. I will try and catch you up as best as I can.

I apologize for the lack of pictures, I will take some and get them up soon.

New House:

We have been all moved into our new house for about 4 weeks now. We still have boxes to unpack. It's getting done slowly but surely. I'm so relaxed here with all this space so it hasn't worn my nerves yet that all the unpacking isn't done. The new house really isn't all that big according to some standards, but to us it feels like a mansion. Our little condo we lived in for 6 1/2 years was 900 sq ft with 3 bedrooms and 1 bathroom. It had no yard. We were blessed that we had a roof over our head and heat/cool when we needed it, but it was just way too cramped for our family. For about 4 months we squeezed into a mobile home that was even smaller than the condo and had only 2 bedrooms. This was our transition home while we looked for a house to buy that would be adequate for our needs. The Lord answered our prayers and gave us exactly what we had wanted. Our new home is 4 bedrooms, 2 story, 3, yes..3 bathrooms a large kitchen, a 2 car garage for Adam, a large yard and it's at the end of a court. It's nearly double the size of our condo and I am so overwhelmed with gratefulness to the Lord for His wonderful provision. The downside is that Adam has a longer commute to work. But, he said it's all worth it to have all of his girls in a nice house all day. Of course his garage makes it worth it too.

It seemed like we were just handed this house. We were looking for a few months, and had already put offers in on 5 other houses which we were denied. When our Realtor called the agent for this house he said that he already had a few cash money offers and we could see it but there really wasn't much point. As soon as we saw the house we knew it was perfect for us so we put in an offer anyway despite what the agent said. The next day our Realtor called and said they were accepting our offer. We were overjoyed. I think Adam offered $15,000 over what the house was listed at. Our next surprise blessing came after the appraisal was done and the house appraised for $15,000 less than we had offered (the exact original price). This was a foreclosure house and so it was being sold by a bank. The bank lowered the sales price down to match the appraisal, so we got the house for less.

During the loan process, I noticed that we were being grossly overcharged by the escrow company. The only reason I knew this, is from having been an Escrow Officer and working in escrow for 10 years. Otherwise we would have had no clue and paid more than we should. I contacted the escrow company and they refused to lower their fees. It was a little frustrating, but the real estate agent for the seller/bank was able to reduce a fee that ended up being 3 times less than what I was asking. This was another huge blessing.

There wasn't a whole lot of work that needed to be done with the house. We painted and painted and painted. The painting took a super long time and I'm glad it's over. I understand now why people hire painters. We also had to replace carpet in the upstairs. It's the only place that is carpeted. We went to Home Depot and received rude customer service and then were told that it would take weeks to get our carpet. We sort of waited to the last minute (our fault for sure) but they could have been friendly at least. We ended up visiting a family owned, carpet/kitchen/bathroom business in town and they gave my husband and incredible deal on some very nice carpet and padding. It was several hundred dollars less than HD would have been, and....they installed it 3 days later. The secretary at the store told my husband that they practically gave him that carpet. I always prefer to patronize family businesses rather than huge corporations anyway. Adam was so thankful for the generosity of the owner that he decided to run a huge $25,000 bathroom project through this store. I think the owner had no idea that by his kindness he would receive a frequent customer in Adam.

We are settling in nicely. Our neighbors are very friendly and there are a lot of children in the court here.

Other recent happenings:

We were invited to head out to Sacramento to Verity Baptist Church, Pastor Roger Jimenez. They had a special service with guest speaker, Pastor Steven Anderson, of Faithful Word Baptist Church from Tempe Arizona. We like to listen to Pastor Anderson's  mp3 sermons and were excited to hear him preach in person. As I expected, his preaching was powerful. It was great to be able to meet Pastor Anderson in person and also to have the pleasure of meeting one of his sons.

Family:

All of the kids had the flu during the time we were moving back to their wonderful selves.

Homeschooling has been more relaxing now that we have space to put all of the stuff. The girls enjoy having more areas around the house to spread out their work. As I'm typing the little ones are happily riding their bikes in our back yard. It's a wonderful thing.

Me:

My body seems to be healed and back to normal after the baby loss. It took about a month to recover fully. I am praying that we will have some new (good) baby news soon. Please keep me in your prayers that my tubes would be healed. That was worse than I ever could have imagined. My heart still aches, and I'm sure always will. There is a very sweet woman at our church who is pregnant with her 11th child. She and I were about the same amount of weeks along. It kind of hurts my heart to hear her updates and see her progress. Please don't get me wrong, I don't have any bitterness toward her. It's just sad for me to know that that's where I would have been.

Another sweet woman at our church told me, time doesn't heal all wounds, God heals all wounds. That keeps me feeling better to know that in the wake of this terrible event, God is there.

Moving and Stuff

For the last two weeks we have been working every day at our new house getting it ready to move. We have to move this weekend and still have so much to do. Some of the work we were planning on doing before we move is now being put off until after we move. The paint and carpet are now the focus before we move. I have kind of put off packing the mobile home and I probably should have started sooner.

Painting has been a lot more work than I could have imagined. Each of the 3 kid rooms are different colors. The rest of the house and our room is all a taupe color. It's nice. There is A LOT of trim to pain. A whole lot. Last weekend we had some very nice friends come out and help us paint. It was such a blessing. There is no way we would have been able to paint that much with just me and Adam. I have discovered really don't have a steady brush painting hand. haha. I'm pretty good with the roller though. Adam is going every night this week after work to finish the painting.

We sort of slacked on getting carpet ordered. Only the upstairs is carpeted and we need to replace it. We picked out a carpet at Home Depot and they told us it would be 2 weeks before they could put it in and we don't have 2 weeks. We have about 3 days. I called that Empire Today and scheduled an appointment. Their ads sound good. However Adam looked up reviews on Yelp and they were very scary. We decided that it would be a bad idea to buy from them. Yesterday we went to a small family owned business in our new town and the owner was working. He was a very nice man and helped us pick out a similar carpet as the one we liked from HD. His estimate came in about $400 cheaper than HD's and they had it in stock and would install on Friday. It was such a relief. Adam was able to make a business connection with the owner so that was nice. Adam is in the process of remodeling a bathroom for work and the owner of the store is going to order all of the stuff he needs.

Saturday morning bright and early is moving day. I am so excited. I really love our new house and still can't believe it's ours.

On a medical note. I have been getting my blood drawn every 2 days to watch my hormone levels until they reach zero again. This loss has been harder than I could have ever imagined. I struggle with wondering if we made the right choice. I have realized I knew very little about ectopic pregnancies at the time we were in the hospital. My prayer is that the baby was no longer alive when the ultrasound was done. I spoke with a Dr about my concerns and a lot of the factors point to a no longer living baby, which I really hope that was the case. I know as humans we can only do what we can with what we know. I am so thankful for forgiveness in Christ. I hope this feeling of guilt will not stay here with me. Adam said he made the right decision.  Please continue to keep us in your prayers. God has been giving me comfort during this time. It's amazing how the scriptures speak right to your heart. I hope to never have to experience this again. I want so much to have another child. We will wait and see what God has planned for us.

Proverbs 30

1The words of Agur the son of Jakeh, even the prophecy: the man spake unto Ithiel, even unto Ithiel and Ucal,

2Surely I am more brutish than any man, and have not the understanding of a man.

3I neither learned wisdom, nor have the knowledge of the holy.

4Who hath ascended up into heaven, or descended? who hath gathered the wind in his fists? who hath bound the waters in a garment? who hath established all the ends of the earth? what is his name, and what is his son's name, if thou canst tell?

5Every word of God is pure: he is a shield unto them that put their trust in him.

6Add thou not unto his words, lest he reprove thee, and thou be found a liar.

7Two things have I required of thee; deny me them not before I die:

8Remove far from me vanity and lies: give me neither poverty nor riches; feed me with food convenient for me:

9Lest I be full, and deny thee, and say, Who is the LORD? or lest I be poor, and steal, and take the name of my God in vain.

3Whoso loveth wisdom rejoiceth his father: but he that keepeth company with harlots spendeth his substance.

4The king by judgment establisheth the land: but he that receiveth gifts overthroweth it.

5A man that flattereth his neighbour spreadeth a net for his feet.

6In the transgression of an evil man there is a snare: but the righteous doth sing and rejoice.
